Rain
In a season of storms, sometimes all we can do is wait for the sun.
Anna was very concerned and upset when I showed her this comic in progress. “Why is Peggy so sad? Who did this to her?” 😅
This is based on something that really happened, as most of these comics are. Earlier in the week, some stuff came up. The details aren’t important.
Anyway, Jeremy showed up, and boy was he mean! He’s always mean, but this was some of his best (worst?) work, hitting me with really deep and burning shame so intense that I really couldn’t pinpoint what exactly triggered it.
I had some vague ideas, though, and tried to explore them through writing, but it backfired! Jeremy grabbed that pen and scribbled his slanderous ranting all over the page.
This happened just hours before a scheduled creative check-in, and I thought I might skip it. Anna worried that I was letting Jeremy isolate me from helpful people and activities, but my main concern was that I didn’t want to bring the rest of the group down.
In the end, I did call into the creative check-in, and it was fun! 😁✨
It was raining that day, too, and I thought about how all storms have a pattern. They build, sometimes get intense, and then move on. We can’t control the weather; the storm lasts as long as it lasts.
But I chose not to actually include Jeremy in the comic, because that’s not the real point. Anything can make us feel like we’re stuck in the rain, not just our inner demons. But what calls us back in are the people who care about us. ❤️
And our creative manifestations will always stare longingly out the window, waiting for our eventual return! 🤣
Speaking of, I’ll be returning in August with more comics. Next week is vacation! 😁
Hope you’re having a great summer and weathering whatever storms come your way.

I love the idea that our creative work patiently waits for us rather than judging us for stepping away. As an artist, I've learned that there are seasons when the work flows and seasons when it quietly waits in the studio. The important thing is returning. Thanks for such an honest, compassionate reflection. ❤️
Enjoy vacation. I hope you left Jeremy behind and managed to dismantle or evict whatever misplaced thread got in your head.
