Candy Isn't Food
...well, not in the "mealtime" sense, anyway.
Anna and I got married when we were 23 years old. Last week, we celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary, which means we’ve now been married more than half our lives! ❤️
We live in West Virginia, which is beautiful but also landlocked. The shortest trip we can take to the ocean is a 6-hour drive to Ocean City, Maryland. Normally, we vacation in North Carolina, but we just didn’t feel like making that long drive this year.
It was a short visit, too: just 3 nights. Since it was a new place for us, we didn’t want to commit to a whole week.
Us, overthink? Never! 🤣🤣🤣
Since we got a good deal on our Air BnB, we decided to splurge and have a fancy dinner at The Hobbit Restaurant. Yes, like the book. They lean into the theme but in a classy and understated way. The Tolkein-inspired artwork on the walls is subtle and tasteful. Cocktails are named after various characters, too.
Anna said her crabcakes were the best she’s ever had! I had a swordfish fillet that was buttery and silky and absolutely divine. All this from our table with a lovely bay view. I’d share photos, but we didn’t take any! Seriously, we were so caught up in the ambiance and just having a wonderful time together that we completely forgot to snap any pics, except for this one:

We did go to the candy store, too! 🍬🍫🍭🤣
Another highlight was The Buzzed Word, a bookstore that also has a wine bar. And yes, we spent more on books than on candy (much to Peggy’s disappointment).
I’m feeling creatively rejuvenated after a week off, though I’m still getting caught up here on Substack! Thanks to Ann Vevera (Wait a minute! ) for the shout-out in her latest post! Ann’s a wonderful artist, storyteller, and friend—if you don’t follow her yet, you should!
I sent Ann (and a few others) a copy of Wordy Robin Volume 1, a collection of selected comics from my first year here on Substack. I’m working on getting set up for online orders, and I’ll let you know when you can grab one! To be honest, I wanted to have that done like 2 months ago but I’ve been dragging my feet for some reason… 😅
ANYWAY! You can see the front cover in Ann’s post, but I’ll show you the whole spread since it wraps around. I couldn’t resist drawing Peggy shoving Jeremy to the back cover! 🤣✨

All right, I’ve probably rambled on long enough. It’s great to be back! Hope your August is off to a great start!
Have an awesome week and keep creating! ✨

Happy anniversary. And no photos from the hobbit restaurant?!?!?! Hope it turns up in a comic.
Happy anniversary! This is so so sweet
