What Now?
That weird downtime after reaching a goal
You probably didn’t, but just in case you missed it, I posted the prologue of Peggy’s story last week! It was a huge milestone and I’m really proud of myself for reaching that goal.
But what comes next?
More work, obviously. There’s writing, drawing, scheduling… all that stuff. Stuff I’m genuinely excited to do!
But I’ve noticed a little drop in energy over the past week. Some of it was grief-related, remembering my mother-in-law’s passing a year ago.
I think, though, there’s also a natural “coming down” period after achieving something important. You get short-sighted as a deadline approaches, and it’s hard to think about what lies beyond. You find yourself this vast unknown the day after, and it’s a strange transition.
Somewhere between Jeremy’s judgement and Peggy’s enthusiasm to press on, I’m gathering myself, letting the fire smolder a bit before adding more fuel.
And, I admit, procrastinating a little. 😅
I got a new horse game recently and customized my equine companion to look as much like Peggy as possible. The game doesn’t let you type in a name for your horse, though; instead, you combine two words from drop-down lists.
My horse’s name? Sugarwings. I think Peggy would approve!
I’m not sure she approves of being magically poofed into space previously occupied by Jeremy, though. Don’t worry, she’s fine. 😉
Have a great week, rest if you need to, and keep on creating.

The break after a big project is so important! I’ve got those two voices going in my head right now, too! Love the comic!
The rush of hitting a deadline/goal and the balloon whoosh of air after it's all done is so real! Creative life, like the desert, is also full of extremes ;) Enjoy the downtime -- you're marinating all sorts of ideas!
